Framing my neurodivergence in positive terms is only the beginning. Now, I’m embracing what I’m capable of creating.
This message is for anyone who feel feels stuck in their identity as Autistic, ADHD, Neurodivergent, a Highly Sensitive Person, or diagnoses like anxiety or depression. These labels can help us understand ourselves, but they’re not the sum of who we are. Don’t let society define you solely by how you differ from the norm. Define yourself by how you make the norm different.
Let me explain.
When I first learned I was Autistic — and more — it was a revelation. My struggles made sense. Why life often felt harder than it seemed for others. Why I couldn’t just “go with the flow.” I found people like me, a community, and a language to describe my experience. But while these realizations were empowering, they also boxed me in. In some ways, it seems like I’ve allowed my obsessive thoughts about Autism to curtail my progress at becoming a fully empowered creator of my own life and activist for a better world.
