This article was so outstanding and I loved seeing all the people in the comments who strongly related to your descriptions as I did, Arwyn. ^_^ I'm a bit "texted out" for the day. Wish I could say more. You reminded me that my high impressionability trait not only shows up when I get deeply into a favorite TV show, but also in the fact that I constantly try to please different sides of an argument and I often have difficulty taking a strong stance on things.
In case concern for animals is a factor in your vegetarian leanings, I have found that most of society is very human-centric. The wellbeing of nonhuman animals is usually treated as an afterthought—something sweet, but not important or morally required. This was important for me to take into consideration, as the bias NOT to care about animals as sentient individuals is probably MUCH bigger than the bias TO care about them. Animals certainly can't hold us accountable to most of what we do to them. It's completely on us to improve how we treat them.
If you sense that a lifestyle that minimizes harm to nonhumans is where you are headed, I hope you find thinkers in that direction who are as kindly, perceptive, nuanced, encouraging, and helpful as you are.
