Jessica, this is one of the best articles I've ever read! It's so fascinating how you felt like it was an inappropriate time to tell your story of struggling with anti-Blackness. Yet, once the people you talked with helped you realize, you share this story, and it couldn't possibly be more relevant, needed, and timely! You are a perfect spokesperson for replacing racism with love because you have experienced racism from multiple angles, including internally.
Thank you for what you said about not wanting Black people or Blackness to merely be tolerated, or to matter, but to be loved.
And what you said about the Good/Bad, Light/Dark, White/Black binaries and how we view not only skin color but associated concepts.
This article gives me ideas for how I could contribute to the discussion as a White person. Mostly, I want to keep replacing the fear I have of being racist with actual love for Black people.
I am sharing your amazing story on facebook right now and will share it with someone who I think would love it!
