I’ve been hoping to find an article like this! Thank you for your thorough research and deep thought regarding narcissism and our use of the concept. The title of the article sums it up so well. I’d much rather be wrong in praising somebody with a positive label than in diagnosing them with an unflattering label. One of my favorite books, No Matter What by Lisa Nichols, recounts an abusive relationship that she survived and healed from. She didn’t monsterify the ex-partner or critique their personality, but simply explained everything that happened in a compassionate way.
